Thank you for visiting The Play of
Light..To let you know a little about me -- I'm 33 years old and currently live in West Hartford, Connecticut in the U.S.A. I moved back from Japan last year to concentrate more on my photography and Web interests. In my 8 years in Kyoto, I became interested in the Japanese visual aesthetic and use of space. I've taken thousands of photographs of Kyoto. Though quantity doesn't mean quality, taking so many photos has allowed me to discover how to illuminate the aspects of the city that to me are the most vibrant and mysterious -- by taking long exposures at night.
I graduated from Colgate University (USA) in 1987 with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Fine Arts. I worked as a photographers assistant after university and was awarded first and second prizes in black & white and second in color photography in the 1987 Roosevelt Island (N.Y.) Photographic Society Competition.
This Web site appeared in the November 1996 issue of ComputerLife magazine in the feature article, 39 great Web sites you can't afford to live without and was listed with Orientation as one of the top ten Asian sites. Also, The Play of Light received three out of four stars byExcite.
In addition to being a photographer, I'm a professional magician, love to sing a cappella, study pottery and am currently a pursuing my interest in the subject of creativity.
The Play of Light, an exhibition held in Kyoto in November, 1995, was my first one-man show. I'd love to hear what you think of the exhibition and the site in general. Any questions, comments, or purchase requests (ahem) would be much appreciated.
